The year 2013 was a very exciting and busy year for me. I became a new mother to a beautiful baby girl! In addition to the joyful challenge of raising a newborn, I have dedicated my time this past year to writing Invisible, a foreign policy book exposing the global plight of children and youth and presenting a blueprint for action. I am also psyched about co-authoring a new children’s book called Every Breath We Take with Dominique Browning, the co-founder and senior director of Moms Clean Air Force. I have continued to teach a course on global poverty and children at the Paul H. Nitze School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. This year, I accepted an appointment as the inaugural Social Entrepreneur in Residence at Duke University. Becoming a mother last year changed my life. I look forward to the new opportunities and challenges that 2014 will bring.
